BACKGROUND

The Vortex Jazz Foundation was set up in November 2001 to save the Vortex Jazz Club, in London's Stoke Newington, from closure. Its purpose was to upgrade the building, to buy the building, to continue the work of the club and to extend its activities.

AIMS AND OBJECTIVES

The Foundation’s aims and objectives are to help secure the future of live jazz in North and East London and to develop a programme of jazz education and audience development.

We are planning to:

bulletrun workshops suited to a wide range of ages and abilities.
bulletintegrate the club’s live performance programming with music colleges in order to provide opportunities for students to perform in public.
bulletcommission new music.
bulletaward prizes and bursaries.

CURRENT SITUATION

Now that the original club in Stoke Newington has closed (see history of the club), the Foundation and the Club are now working towards raising money to secure a long term future at the new culture house in Dalston.
